Stock Option Trading is relatively simple in concept to understand, but is of course far harder to master in real life situations. Stock Option Trading involves the right to buy or sell a stock at a certain time at a certain price. If you think a stock will rise in price by a certain date, you can buy an option on it doing so. With Stock Option Trading, you can also place your money on a stock going down.

Unlike in buying Stocks, where for example a $20 stock may drop to $10 a share, resulting in a loss of half your investment, in Stock Option Trading you have a real risk of losing all of your investment. For example, if the stock drops dramatically in price the option may be worth nothing, even if the stock itself still has value. While Stock Option Trading may be riskier, and is more full of pitfalls than Stock Trading, many investors find Stock Option Trading to be the most profitable element of their portfolios.
